Miss You Alotl, Love you Alotl

One year ago today, the classes in our school district were moved to online. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the county had increased from 1 to 31 in 6 days. 26 schools in the school district have been affected via direct or indirect exposure to the COVID-19 virus. There was so much that we did not know about the virus then and people were anxious and nervous about sending their kids back to school. School attendance had dropped by 20% and when the Superintendent believed that they could no longer safely open and operate the schools, she moved the lessons online.

Like many parents, I was relieved. Perhaps even a little excited that I get to keep the kids at home. We were told that online school was for two weeks while they monitor the situation but by April, the Governor ordered all schools to be closed for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year.

And so, here we are. Still at home doing Zoom classes a full year later. Like their peers, my kids have missed out on everything that comes with a normal school year -- the in-person classroom experience, dances, field trips, concerts, competitions, marching band, and so much more. Of all the things that they missed, it is their friends that they miss the most.

Don't get me wrong, the kids do still hang out with their friends. It is just that they mostly do it online. Outside of online school, they played Animal Crossing together and now Genshin Impact. They don't meet in person very much but they have dropped off treats and presents at each other's front doors. For the once or twice when they get to see each other in-person, they made sure to mask up, keep a distance, and keep the meeting brief.

Mar 8, 2021. Football practice is finally happening again but the classrooms remain closed.

The school district has recently started to let some student groups back to in-person instruction. School sports are slowly happening again. Most of the students, however, are still doing school via Zoom. No one knows when schools will reopen again for everyone but I know that when they do, my kids will be most happy when they see their friends again.

Happy Halloween!

It's October 31st and what a strange October it has been. With the current Covid-19 situation going from bad to worse (again?! 😭) it feels like Halloween is about to be cancelled. We still did the things that we usually do like making our annual trip to the pumpkin patch but we did it on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds. We did have to put our masks on but honestly, it's not a big deal at all if that's what it takes to keep everyone safe.

My girls are older now and even though they are not really into going door-to-door to ask for treats anymore, they are disappointed that we can't have a Halloween party for them and their friends like we do every year. It was nice though that their school held a little Halloween drive-thru for the students the other night. The kids dressed up a little and got a treat bag and a cup of hot cocoa each without even getting out of the car.

All of our schedules have been turned upside down since the pandemic hit. Hubby is still working from home and the kids are all still doing remote learning. With everyone home, I don't have as much time to play with my crafty things but thankfully I still get to play with my Silhouette Cameo. I have so much to show you guys! For a start, here are some of the Halloween gnomes from LD's Fall Gnomes collection. I can't wait to show y'all more gnomes later.

Have a happy and safe Halloween, everyone!

Happy Fall!

Pumpkin season is here! It feels like it was just yesterday when we all went into quarantine and now it's the first day of Fall? It's been over 6 months and we're still in a pandemic?! *cry*

I love Autumn. There's something about the cooler air, the yellow-orange colors of the trees, and the smell of hot apple cider in my kitchen that just make me feel cozy all over. We go to the pumpkin patch every October to pick our pumpkins but this may be the year that I make an exception. As long as the schools are not opened for in-person classes, we'll be in self-quarantine and staying at home. We love going to the farm and joining in the festivities but I'm not feeling so good about the crowds. So I guess we'll be getting our pumpkins from the grocery stores this year. I hope Whole Foods delivers.

Happy Fall, y'all!
